Friends of Verulamium Park was launched on 15 April 2025 in the Abbey Theatre, St Albans. It is a community group formed with three main objectives:
To be a voice for all users of the Park
To enhance the wildlife, natural beauty and archaeological integrity of this precious space in the long term for users and visitors
To improve the user and visitor experience by providing information, especially about the history and natural environment of the Park.
We work with St Albans City and District Council and the Countryside Management Service (CMS) to deliver projects, events and volunteering opportunities.
We support species-rich meadows, hedgerows and ponds. We are working with CMS to provide volunteer help to clear brambles and allow bluebells to flourish, to plant trees in the former golf course and generally to improve the bio-diversity and richness of wildlife in the Park.
Verulamium Park sits on the remains of the Roman town of Verulamium. We are working with Verulamium Museum to create interpretive signage and provide volunteers for carefully managed works while following their expert guidance.
We improve the appearance of the Park for all users and visitors by clearing litter, including sharp items that endanger safety. Our regular litter picks are superbly supported by volunteer members.
